Candlemas is celebrated on 2 February and marks the return of light, a symbol of protection and prosperity. It commemorates the presentation of Jesus at the Temple of Jerusalem, referring to him as the light of the people of Israel.
This day marks the midpoint of winter, halfway between the shortest day and the spring equinox.
Please bring your own candles to be blessed at Masses in St Patrick's Church, Dungannon at 10.00am and 7.30pm on Friday 2 February.
